Latest news on Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) : On March 1, 2024, the province of Alberta will open a new stream in an effort to assist the province’s tourism and hospitality sectors in addressing employment shortages and other issues.

Beginning March 1, 2024, applications for a limited number of spots in the Tourism and Hospitality Stream will be accepted for Alberta immigration.

As part of other priority processing initiatives, the Alberta immigration department will process these applications more quickly.

The target of this new program is to strengthen and expand the provincial economy, helping Albertan companies in this industry recruit and keep the necessary labour.

In order to qualify for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream of the immigration program, applicants must hold a legitimate full-time, non-seasonal employment offer from an authorized company in the relevant industry.

Furthermore, those who have satisfied the requirements to permanently establish themselves in Alberta and who have worked for a tourist or hospitality company for at least six months will be eligible to apply for the tourism and hospitality streams.

When the AAIP opens for applications on March 1, 2024, more information about the requirements and application process will be made available.

Alberta Temporarily Pauses Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream application process has been temporarily suspended by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) until further notice.

Applications for the Alberta Opportunity Stream that were submitted prior to the halt will still be evaluated by the AAIP.

Applications in draft form on the AAIP site that were not yet filed prior to the halt, including those that are awaiting payment of the final fee, will not be accepted as of now.

With the program’s limited immigration nominations directed at pressing needs like addressing labour shortages in high-demand industries including healthcare, technology, construction, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality, a halt will allow the program to address its present inventory.

In order to maintain appropriate service standards throughout its streams and to manage future application volumes against program goals, the AAIP will be putting measures in place.
